The World Piano Competition

"Liegi"

The world piano competition was born in liège in 2000, thanks to the will of great pianist of international fame and sponsors who have contribueted to this event. The competition is open to all young people between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five. The event is held every four years piano, so to give more time to the participants in preparing a well balance and at the same time get to obtain adequate scholarships for the academic achievement of the winners. In addition, there are other available scholarships, which are awarded to the best performaces ever. The jury consists of internationally renowned pianists and music critics. This jury is flanked by the honorary committee chosen from the various districts of the associations “Busoni” and sponsors.

The competition is subdivide into the following test:

First Semifinal



In the semi – final will not be proposed again the works already carried out in the preliminary round. The candidate will support a recital divided into three parts.
In the first part will host some authors on the classical period to the free choice of the candidate for not less than half – hour between:


D. Scarlatti: one or more sonatas free choice of the candidate.
Cimarosa: one or more sonatas free choice of the candidate.
J. Haydn:one or more sonatas free choice of the candidate.

In the second part of the semi – final will host the authors of the romantic period th the free choice of the candidate for not less than one hour.

In the third part of semi – final will host the authors of the moderm period to the free choice of the candidate for not less than half – hour.

Second Semifinal



The second semifinal includes the concerts for piano and orchestra, and classical style of the period up to 900. The concerts are selected by the commission and the candidates have twenty days available to try with the orchestra of two concerts that will have freely chosen from among those reported by commission.

Final Test



The final test is to support one and a half concert with a free program that does not resume the works already carried out in the previous rounds.

The following test may be subject to small modifications based on the choice of the technical commission board. Therefore we invite those who are interested in participating in the contest contact the specific site of the event for the 2016 edition.

Prizegiving



The award consists of an evening concert of honor where the first three candidates on the podium will perform for twenty minutes with a work in their free choice.

- The first prize is a scholarship from E 50.000,00 more than thirty concerts prize;

- The second prize is a scholarship from E 30.000,00 more than twenty concerts prize;

- The third prize is a scholarship from E 15.000,00 more than ten concerts prize;


The remaining individual prizes worth E 25.000,00 will be divided into scholarships of E 5.000,00 of the best interpretations of an author chosen by the selection commission of honor.
